  • Difficult people are gifts, if you know what to do with them.

Man pushing a boulder on a mountainDifficult people can be such an energy drain. All the time spent thinking about what they said, what they did, how they made you feel, dreading the next time you’re going to have to see them, talk to them, deal with them… Ack! It can be exhausting!

But in the end, the sooner you own the situation, take responsibility for having this person show up in your life, regardless of all the reasons you don’t get it, the sooner they lose their power over you. And in the end, that’s what you want. Your power back. Your energy back.

Let’s face it, when they’re in your life, they’re in your life. They are taking up space, even if they aren’t aware of it. And your resistance to them, your wishing they weren’t causing you the trouble they are – well, THAT doesn’t make them go away, and actually, your resistance makes things worse.

So here’s what I suggest you do:

Own it. Your life, your mellow-drama, your karma. Say it, ‘this is mine’. There’s power in ownership.

Know it. Be honest. Have you seen this show before? Is this the same bully you met in high school, just dressed up in different clothes with a different name? Is this your overbearing and controlling parent energy, showing up as a co-worker? Is this needy, negative, whiny individual someone you’ve met before, in a different form? Chances are – there’s a pattern here. A pattern that’s yours, not theirs. As the old saying goes “our lessons show up until we learn them”, and in my experience, most lessons come by the way of people. Get intimate with what exactly is bothering you. Take the mask off, forget about them, and focus on what’s really going on for you?

Heal it. Healing means restoring to wholeness. This person has been drawn forth by your subconscious to remind you of where you still have unfinished business, unhealed wounds, a crack in your armour. And in fact, THEY, are a gift to you, because without them, you wouldn’t have even known there was healing to do. And there are many ways to heal. But healing doesn’t start until you acknowledge there’s a wound. A wound in you. From there, you can pray, you can meditate, you can exercise (sweat it out), you can write it out and burn it or shred it up, you can surrender it to God, to the Universe, to the Angels, to your cat. Choose whatever form you want, because this is the easiest step. Healing happens naturally, now that you’re out of the way with you resistance and avoidance.

You’ll know when things are cleared up inside you because one of two things will happen. Either they will change in some way and cease being difficult, or you won’t care anymore. Actually, there’s a third possibility, which is they will seemingly disappear from your life, because their purpose will have been served. You will no longer have a vibrational match within you. And therefore you’ll find that they’re just gone from your world.

Either way, you’ll get what you wanted all along. You power back. Your energy back. Your freedom back.
